The Mark Thomas Outrigger, situated at 700 Cannery Row in Monterey, California, was a captivating Polynesian-themed restaurant and tiki bar that opened in 1959. The venue was housed in the former Monterey Canning Company building, which also featured a butterfly shop at its front. The Outrigger was renowned for its immersive tropical décor, including a unique glass floor in the lounge area that allowed patrons to observe sea life beneath them. Signature tiki mugs, such as the iconic "Sneaky Tiki," became coveted collectibles. Despite suffering a fire in 1978, the restaurant was rebuilt and continued operations until 1984. Today, the location is home to the Fish Hopper restaurant, but the legacy of the Outrigger endures among tiki enthusiasts.
