The Showboat Hotel & Casino opened on September 3, 1954, bringing a steamboat-inspired theme to the Las Vegas landscape. Known for catering to locals, it became famous for its 106-lane bowling alley, which hosted national PBA tournaments. The property expanded over the decades, adding a showroom that featured top entertainers and a thriving bingo hall. In 2000, it was rebranded as the Castaways but struggled to compete with newer resorts. The casino ultimately closed on January 29, 2004, and was demolished in 2006, ending its 50-year run on the Boulder Strip.
