Oscar's Hurricane Cove was a renowned tiki bar and restaurant located at 305 Crescent Avenue in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island, California. Established in 1937 by Oscar Griffith, the venue became famous for its immersive tropical ambiance, featuring a large semi-circular bamboo piano bar and hourly simulated hurricanes complete with lights, fans, and sound effects. Griffith imported a bamboo construction expert to bring his vision to life, creating an authentic Polynesian-inspired atmosphere. The bar hosted live performances by Jimmy Lowe and the Sons of Hawaii, and attracted top entertainers from the nearby Avalon Casino Ballroom, including Benny Goodman. Despite its popularity, Oscar's Hurricane Cove closed its doors in 1979, marking the end of an era for this iconic island establishment.
