The Golden Nugget Saloon, established in 1946 by Guy McAfee, was one of the first major casinos in downtown Las Vegas. McAfee, a former Los Angeles police captain turned casino owner, designed the establishment with a vintage theme inspired by San Francisco's Barbary Coast. In 1973, entrepreneur Steve Wynn acquired a controlling interest in the property, initiating significant expansions, including the addition of hotel towers in 1977 and 1984. The Golden Nugget changed ownership multiple times over the years, with notable transactions in 2000 and 2003. Today, it remains a prominent landmark on Fremont Street, though its original incarnation as the Golden Nugget Saloon has evolved significantly since its inception.
