The Dragon Seed Restaurant Luau Hut, located at 86-02 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights, New York, was a beloved Chinese-Tiki fusion establishment that operated from April 1949 to July 1993. The restaurant was renowned for its exotic décor, featuring bamboo booths, beaded curtains, and a wishing well, creating an immersive tropical ambiance. The menu offered a blend of Chinese and Cantonese dishes alongside tropical cocktails like Mai Tais and Zombies, served in tiki mugs adorned with fruit garnishes and paper umbrellas. Notably, jazz legend Louis Armstrong and his wife, Lucille, were frequent patrons, often engaging with fans during their visits. After its closure, the location underwent various transformations, but remnants of its tiki past lingered for years, including moai statues that stood guard at the entrance.
