The Colony Steakhouse was a renowned dining establishment located within the Ambassador Hotel at 3560 Broadway in Kansas City, Missouri. Opened in 1953 by restaurateur Ralph Gaines, it quickly became a local favorite, celebrated for its quality steaks and elegant atmosphere. The Colony was also known for its live entertainment, notably serving as the venue where television personality Steve Allen discovered singer Marilyn Maye. Over the years, the restaurant relocated several times, including a move to Union Station in 1980, before eventually closing in 2003. Today, the Ambassador Hotel continues to offer dining experiences, such as The American Reserve, but The Colony remains a cherished memory of Kansas City's rich culinary history.
