The Akron East Ends were a prominent amateur American football team based in Akron, Ohio, active from 1894 to 1904. Competing in the Ohio League, a precursor to the modern NFL, they emerged as one of the dominant teams in the region. In 1902, the East Ends clinched the Ohio Independent Championship, solidifying their status as a formidable force in early professional football. Their primary rivals included teams like the Canton Athletic Association and the Massillon Tigers, with whom they had intense matchups that captivated local fans. Notably, the East Ends were led by player-coach Bill Laub, a former standout at Western Reserve University, who later became the first head coach of the Canton Bulldogs. The team's dominance waned after consecutive losses to the Massillon Tigers in 1903 and 1904, leading to their eventual decline and reorganization as the Akron Athletic Club around 1904. The legacy of the Akron East Ends is intertwined with the early development of professional football in Ohio, paving the way for future teams like the Akron Pros, who became charter members of the National Football League in 1920. Printed on our super soft ring-spun & combed cotton unisex T-Shirt. Or upgrade to our Luxury vintage heather colors (cotton/poly blend) for an even softer, more durable, classic look. Which colors are luxury? Any color with the word "heather" in its name.
